Description

Grows in most soils including clay and limestone. Does best in moist, but well drained soils. Shade tolerant. Tamaracks are very cold tolerant. Tamarack is a deciduous evergreen. Fast grower. The wood is used principally for pulpwood, but also for posts, poles, rough lumber, and firewood. It is also grown as an ornamental tree in gardens in cold regions, and is a favorite tree for bonsai. Needles turn yellow before dropping.
