Carya cordiformis, 1-2', matures up to 80'. Prefers partial shade to full sun, acidic, moist, well-drained soil. Notable for its unique sulfur-yellow buds, it is one of the most widespread hickories. It has a yellow fall leaf and is known for its strong wood commonly used as handles for striking tools.
